Laser Gas Analyzers

Laser gas analyzers use lasers to detect the concentration of gases in a given sample. They offer high-speed and precision when analyzing specific gases composition. At Barnett Technical Services, we offer various types of laser gas analyzers manufactured by ABB. Now part of the ABB Group, Los Gatos Research (LGR) is a leading developer and manufacturer of laser-based instruments for measuring trace gases, isotopes, pollutants, and fluxes. LGR-ICOS analyzers use Off-Axis Integrated Cavity Output Spectroscopy (OA-ICOS), a unique laser absorption technology patented by LGR. This technology has evolved out of tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy. Barnett Technical Services proudly serves as an authorized distributor of ABB's product line, offering a range of cutting-edge instruments including a range of Greenhouse Gas Analyzers (GGA), Liquid Water Isotope Analyzers (LWIA), and N2O Analyzers.

Overview of LGR-ICOS™ Laser Gas Analyzers

ABB's LGR-ICOS™ analyzers are the latest advancement in laser-based gas analysis instruments. These include Liquid Water Isotopic Analyzers that offer accurate measurements of δ2H, δ18O, and δ18O in water. They have a rugged design and available as lab-based or portable systems. The technology behind all these advancements is Off-Axis Integrated Cavity Output Spectroscopy (OA-ICOS). There is no need to use toxic reagents for sample analysis.

 Power of OA-ICOS Technology

There are many advantages of the OA-ICOS technology compared to other gas detection techniques. For example:
  • This powerful technology, an extension of the Cavity Ring Down Spectroscopy (CRDS) method, is fast replacing older techniques.
  • LGR-ICOS™ laser gas analyzers have been so effective for scientific understanding of the water cycle, climate modeling, atmospheric convection, and many other applications that require extremely precise measurement of water isotope ratios as a result of this technology.
  • The measurement accuracy of OA-ICOS has been proven with case studies and experiments being conducted using this as well as other techniques such as IRMS. One of them comprised measurements of GISP and four commercially available USGS isotopic reference waters by using OA-ICOS LGR analyzer and other IRMS analyzers. The one with OA-ICOS LGR analyzer displayed highly accurate results for 17 O-excess VMSOW-SLAP.

Benefits of LGR-ICOS™ Laser Gas Analyzers

Here are some of the many benefits of LGR-ICOS™ Laser Gas Analyzers.
  • Unmatched Sensitivity: They can detect trace gas constituents at ultra-low levels (typically ppb).
  • Exceptional Accuracy & Selectivity: They ensure precise and reliable process monitoring.
  • Real-Time Speed & Wide Dynamic Range: These analyzers have high-resolution absorption spectra that are viewable continuously for real-time diagnostics. This facilitates process control with fast response times and measures both trace and major gas components accurately.
  • Rugged & Reliable Performance: With a rugged design, these analyzers offer accurate measurements along with long-term stability and minimal downtime possibilities. They can be configured as lab systems or lightweight portable systems.
  • Reduced Maintenance Costs: They are designed for ease of use and field serviceability, and are low on maintenance costs. They are easy to use and can switch between high throughput and high-performance mode without the need for additional hardware.
  • Superior Stability: They come with real-time signal compensation and minimize recalibration needs.

Applications of LGR-ICOS™ Analyzers Across the

These systems are used for a range of environmental monitoring and research studies, including greenhouse gas (GHG) monitoring, N2O analysis, and the measurement of isotopic ratios in water.
